30 Day Challenge – Day 6

30 Day Challenge – Day 6

Still in the noticing stage and not judging anything.

If your market research is correct, you will not have problems getting traffic.

Go to Google and do a search on your 7 ideas adding the word “affiliate” to the end. Take a note of whether there are affiliate programs/products for the ideas or not.

Then do some Google Trending on your 7 ideas.

That’s all for today. Remember no judging, just noticing.

Until next time,

Mike

30 Day Challenge – Day 3

Recap – Last time we looked for ideas and then needed to whittle them down to 7. Just get ideas – several ideas. You may find that one of the 7 doesn’t work and you have to back to your list, or do another 7 list.

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com

Using Wordtracker

Task – Go to wordtracker and search on you main keywords for your 7 main ideas to get an idea on the number of searches.

This Wordtracker tool gives you the approximate daily searches for the term.

Copy and past all of the phrases to a text document and save the document.

The 30 DC toolbar gives you the top Google Adwords ads for your search terms. Look at some of the top ads.

You may find some review sites, they mainly rely on clicks on Adsense ads etc. – You are looking for sites with sales letters selling a particular product. You are looking for competition because that means there is a market.

Competition is good because there is money to be made and you are just going to out market your competition.

Task – Google the main phrase and look at the ads for your seven ideas.

30 Day Challenge Day 3

It’s not too late to get involved with the 30 Day Challenge, but you need to hurry and get signed up – it’s free!

Okay, I’m off to look at the Wordtracker and Google data for my 7 ideas!

30 Day Challenge Video – Day 2

30 Day Challenge – Day 2

Here are my notes:

Gather ideas – Get out and away from the computer. Go out in public and watch people, see what they’re doing.

Dan uses a example of going to a craft fair. He found many new ideas at the craft fair – making candles and selling them at fairs, and beer brewing were two examples.

Stay away form very competitive markets.
Stay away getting fit or losing weight, dog training, vitamins or health related and internet marketing. Don’t go after these major topics.

The key is to make $10, your idea might not have a big market, but the key is to make just $10.

The key is to make $10, and learn the process, so you can duplicate it over and over again.

Stay focused – do the daily actions before you do the fun stuff like reading the forum etc.

Todays task is to find ideas to research later.

You may want to look into things you love, and you are an expert at. But there are risks in going into these types of topics. If you are an expert in your topic you may require everything to be too perfect, even though people looking for your info will find it valuable. Your desire for perfection may keep you from accomplishing tasks. Or, you may have great experience at it – but, because of that you are burned out on it.

Reduce your ideas down to 7 markets. Remember, we are doing MARKET research, not product research. Remember, we need to see if a market exists before looking for a product.

You may have a great product idea, but there may not be a market for it – focus on ideas, not products.

Okay, we are generating ideas using four different resources.

1. Ebay Pulse – What people are buying on eBay. This is good for seeing what people are buying. The first page won’t really tell you anything. Click on the categories and look for popular items in the categories.

http://pulse.ebay.com

2. Technorati – What people are talking/blogging about.

http://technorati.com

Click on Popular
Check out some of the most popular blogs for ideas

3. Google Groups

http://groups.google.com

Browse all group categories

Look for topics that are high activity – high activity is good but may mean more competition.

4. Google Trends

http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends

The first page of info is really no help. Go up to the top and click on the categories, and look for info in the categories.

Finding new ideas is always a challenge for me. After looking at the above resources, I have a few ideas. But, I struggle with if the ideas will work. Are they too broad, are they too tight, what kind of product could I ever find, or create for this idea?

So, I have some ideas. I’m not going to let you know what they are yet. But I may let you know of those that don’t make the cut. I may let you know why they were eliminated.

Day 2 – 30 Day Challenge Training

Okay, back to finding more ideas.

Until next time,
Mike

30 Day Challenge Video – Day One

I am going to try to create a series of videos for the 30 day challenge. In order to do that, I have to first learn how to create videos.

Here is my first video ever – it’s not perfect and I have already made some changes to it, but I see you can’t overwrite a video you have already placed on YouTube.

30 Day Challenge – Day 1

Well, the 30 day challenge has started. Today we were given a few tasks – watch a video, listen to a podcast, get caught up on preseason activities we may have missed and start writing down niche ideas.

Here are the notes I took from the video and audio, along with my personal thoughts.

Internet marketing – the 4 primary keys in order:

1. Market Research – The most important key – where most people will fail. Can get all the market research you need for free online.

This is key – don’t take it for granted, don’t assume your idea is good.

Think small niche – trout fishing, then sub niche trout fishing with spinner, trout fishing in stream etc.

My personal thoughts: I definitely need this! I know market research is the key and have done some reading on it. But I still struggle coming up with those good ideas/niches where there is demand, people are willing to buy and there isn’t too much competition. I’m hoping this will really help me out!

2. Traffic – of course you must have traffic. If you get no traffic you can’t get people to the conversion/sales process. 30 DC this year teaches getting traffic for nothing. But, you have to trade some time in exchange for the free traffic.

My personal thoughts: Who couldn’t use more traffic? I could sure use some. I’m hoping this 30 day challenge will really help teach me some new web 2.0 methods for getting more traffic and better search engine rankings.

3. Conversion/Sales Process – in previous years this has been the hardest part. In past years a sales letter was used to promote. This has been the standard for years.

This year sales letters are less important. Conversion process is important. Going to be building a list and pre selling your product. We will not be selling. If you have to hard sell, you’ve missed something.

My personal thoughts: Is web 2.0 going to change the sales process? Instead of sending people to a hard sale page, will the sale be approached differently? Will be interesting to see how this works.

4. Product – Create your own product. In past year’s ebooks were created in the 30 day challenge. This year consider videos or audio for a product. Or, you may sell someone else’s product. Can also out source – out sourcing Audio/Video is less costly than writing.

My personal thoughts: I have waited too long to get into the video age. A few months ago I would have preferred to read instead of watch a video. I am starting to lean towards video now. This is the future (and present) and I need to start creating videos. I have been doing some “playing” lately and it really isn’t that hard to create videos. But how creative do I need to be?

Jot down ideas on niches/markets
My personal thoughts: Okay, I will do this as I go through my day. It’s tempting to take some sites I already have and use those for the 30 day challenge. But, I think I need to take a new idea from scratch for this.

Okay, that’s all for now

30 Day Challenge Update

Todays 30 Day Challenge pre-season video talked about group communication.  The favorite communication tool is Skype.

Skype is an instant messaging system, that includes the ability to communicate to each other via typing instant messages.  But even better, you call each other, or conference with each other and actually speak to one another for free.

Skype has been around for a long time and I have used in the past, but I had problems with it on my old computer, so I never used it again.

Because of the 30 DC I have installed it on my new computer and it’s working great!  So, another benefit of the 30 Day Challenge was getting me to install Skype and use it to communicate with other people who have the same desire to make money from home.

The real 30 DC doesn’t start until tomorrow, but I have already benefited from the 30 day challenge.

Just got done looking at the second video about Facebook and some of the things you can do with Facebook.com

I really need to spend some time learning Facebook and what it can do.

A great resource Ed pointed out on the video is Trendhunter.com .  Wow, another site I will have to check out.

If you are interested in joining the 30 day challenge but are concerned that you are getting started late, don’t worry about it and just get started.

Ed has stated that they will take the first week slowly so you can get caught up by this weekend if you fall behind.

Plus, I will be happy to help you as much as I can, and I’m sure you can find help in the 30DC forum.

There is plenty of help available and the 30 day challenge is free.  Ed and Dale are making nothing on the 30 day challenge itself.  Now, they are expanding their contact list and they may have some upsell for us at the end of the challenge, but they aren’t charging for the training of the 30 day challenge.

I am happy to help others as well.  If you need help, simply comment on what type of help you need and I will get in touch with you.

Until next time,
Mike

Doing The 30 Day Challenge

There is quite a movement taking place in the internet marketing community right now – it’s the 30 day challenge.

The 30 day challenge is the brain child of Ed Raine and Ed Dale. The purpose of the 30 day challenge is to help new internet marketers make their first $10 in thirty days. The 30 day period starts on August 1st.

Let me tell you right now the cost – nothing, zilch, zero nada – It’s FREE!

This is my first 30 day challenge, so I’m not sure exactly what to expect. But, my understanding is that this challenge is really geared towards beginning internet marketers.

I don’t consider myself a beginning internet marketer, but there were a couple of things about the 30 day challenge that were intriguing to me.

1. There will be an emphasis on Web 2.0 techniques.

Unless you have been living without internet access (oh, how could I survive without it) you know that Web 2.0 is “IT”! Web 2.0 is the current rage and is transforming how we do things on the internet. To stay competitive in the online marketing environment, you need to have a good grasp on Web 2.0

I thought I had a good grasp of Web 2.0 – I don’t! The challenge has not started yet, but pre-season has begun, and I have already learned more about web 2.0 in pre-season than I had known before beginning this pre-season challenge.

2. Participants are encouraged to form teams and work together.

Those who are participating in the challenge are encouraged to form teams. I have been somewhat of a loner in my online marketing career, and wanted to us this challenge to build some relationships with people like me who were striving to make their living on the internet. I am part of a team of seven, and I am looking forward to getting to know each one of them.

It’s interesting to see the different types of teams that are being formed to work this 30 day challenge.

The are home schoolers participating as part of a school project. Now, that is cool!

There are teams forming from all over the world by country, region and even city. Teams of all different age groups (teenagers to 80s), male teams, female teams, and one of my favorites – the Nerd Table.

The 30 day challenge content is being delivered via audio pod casts and videos. The information presented so far has been great – I have learned more from the last few videos than I thought I would learn in the whole 30 days.

So, if you are a new to trying to make money on the internet, an intermediate internet marketer, or an expert guru – the 30 day challenge is for you.

I hope to do a daily blog as soon as the 30 day challenge starts. I want to give you a daily update on the tasks that I perform everyday.

I encourage you to join the 30 Day Challenge and follow along with this blog!

So, get ready to check back here on August 1st!

Until next time,
Mike
