Shady Internet Marketing Tactics

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I am on several email lists these days, too many email lists.  Today, I received an email that looked interesting, the email had to do with what I thought was related to generating traffic.  Like most people, I can always use more traffic, so I went to the website to check it out.

What I found was a lead capture page - okay, no problem.  I subscribed and was sent to a One Time Offer (OTO), and verified my email.  I then received the email telling me what the traffic strategy was.

The traffic strategy is one that can be very effective.  But the way this was presented to me pissed me off, because I thought the whole process was deceptive.  The first email from the affiliate marketer, who shall remain nameless is below.

————————————————————

“Hope your week was awesome and you’re getting ready for a great
long weekend! :)

I’m just sending you a little ‘reminder’ email today…

One of my online colleagues “removed marketers name” has revealed the secret the
“big guns” use to drive absolute floods of traffic to their sites
and I wanted to let you know about it…

“Marketers name” list of clients is a who’s who of Internet marketing and
includes Mark Joyner, Russell Brunson, Henry Gold and Joel Comm,
plus many more to name!

I’ve used this tactic covertly to triple my traffic and profits in
the last 6 months, so it’s some powerful stuff indeed!

————————————————————

After subscribing to the “marketers name” list, I found out what the traffic tactic was.

Okay, are you ready for this “traffic generation” technique?

Are you sure…okay, wait for it…wait for it…the traffic technique is JVs.

Not only that, but they will teach me JV techniques for only  - I think it was $997, but it could have been $1997.  I’m not really sure because I immediately closed the window and unsubscribed from both lists.

This made me mad because - to me, JVing is not a “traffic generation” technique.  It’s a marketing technique, but it’s not directly related to traffic generation.

Now, there is nothing wrong with doing JVs and learning how to do JVs.  But, I really didn’t like the way this was presented.  Maybe I’m just a little bit testy today, but it just set me off.

It also made me mad because I doubt very much that the marketers mentioned in the email would JV with me, or you, even if we bought the JV package, and learned all we need to know about JVing.

I know from experience, that most big time internet marketers are not going to JV with you.  Most won’t even give you the time of day by even responding to your request for a JV.

Unless you have something really unique, new and ground breaking, they will not JV with you. They reserve most of their JVs for their inner circle.

To be clear, I don’t really have a problem with big internet marketers not JVing with most of us little guys.  But I am tired of JV training courses being sold for big money, leading people to believe they can JV with the “Big Boys”.

Unfortunately, it’s a catch 22 - doing a JV with big marketers can make your online career, but it’s hard getting big time marketers to JV with you.

Okay, this is starting to turn into a post on JV partnerships, and that was not my intent.  My intent was to show you something that made me mad as a subscriber.

This single email promotion process lead me to remove myself from two lists.

Let it be a lesson on how to approach your subscribers, what products you promote, and how you promote them.

Mike
