Shady Internet Marketing Tactics

I am on several email lists these days, too many email lists.  Today, I received an email that looked interesting, the email had to do with what I thought was related to generating traffic.  Like most people, I can always use more traffic, so I went to the website to check it out.

What I found was a lead capture page – okay, no problem.  I subscribed and was sent to a One Time Offer (OTO), and verified my email.  I then received the email telling me what the traffic strategy was.

The traffic strategy is one that can be very effective.  But the way this was presented to me pissed me off, because I thought the whole process was deceptive.  The first email from the affiliate marketer, who shall remain nameless is below.

————————————————————

“Hope your week was awesome and you’re getting ready for a great
long weekend! :)

I’m just sending you a little ‘reminder’ email today…

One of my online colleagues “removed marketers name” has revealed the secret the
“big guns” use to drive absolute floods of traffic to their sites
and I wanted to let you know about it…

“Marketers name” list of clients is a who’s who of Internet marketing and
includes Mark Joyner, Russell Brunson, Henry Gold and Joel Comm,
plus many more to name!

I’ve used this tactic covertly to triple my traffic and profits in
the last 6 months, so it’s some powerful stuff indeed!

————————————————————

After subscribing to the “marketers name” list, I found out what the traffic tactic was.

Okay, are you ready for this “traffic generation” technique?

Are you sure…okay, wait for it…wait for it…the traffic technique is JVs.

Not only that, but they will teach me JV techniques for only  – I think it was $997, but it could have been $1997.  I’m not really sure because I immediately closed the window and unsubscribed from both lists.

This made me mad because – to me, JVing is not a “traffic generation” technique.  It’s a marketing technique, but it’s not directly related to traffic generation.

Now, there is nothing wrong with doing JVs and learning how to do JVs.  But, I really didn’t like the way this was presented.  Maybe I’m just a little bit testy today, but it just set me off.

It also made me mad because I doubt very much that the marketers mentioned in the email would JV with me, or you, even if we bought the JV package, and learned all we need to know about JVing.

I know from experience, that most big time internet marketers are not going to JV with you.  Most won’t even give you the time of day by even responding to your request for a JV.

Unless you have something really unique, new and ground breaking, they will not JV with you. They reserve most of their JVs for their inner circle.

To be clear, I don’t really have a problem with big internet marketers not JVing with most of us little guys.  But I am tired of JV training courses being sold for big money, leading people to believe they can JV with the “Big Boys”.

Unfortunately, it’s a catch 22 – doing a JV with big marketers can make your online career, but it’s hard getting big time marketers to JV with you.

Okay, this is starting to turn into a post on JV partnerships, and that was not my intent.  My intent was to show you something that made me mad as a subscriber.

This single email promotion process lead me to remove myself from two lists.

Let it be a lesson on how to approach your subscribers, what products you promote, and how you promote them.

Selling One of My Established Websites

Selling One of My Established Websites!

This is a Rare Opportunity to Pick up a Unique Online Business of Your Own.

I am selling one of my established websites, along with the software product I created myself.

This product is only about 8 months old, and has not come close to reaching it’s true potential.

You can be the exclusive owner of the website, domain, blog, forum and the software product, or one of a few Private Label Rights (PLR) owners to the sales page and software.

I have put a lot of time, effort an money into building this business, but I haven’t promoted it like I should have, so the exposure to the site and product is very low.

There is a lot of opportunity to really make a hit of this site and software product.

So, due to other projects I am working on, and not having the time to give this site the attention it deserves, I am going to sell it.

I could sell this site on Sitepoint.com or some other web site selling service, but I wanted to give my newsletter subscribers and my blog visitors the chance to pick it up first.

Here are the details

I have spent some time today creating a new site using the VIP Essentials Review Site Builder for Wordpress.

I don’t normally promote someone else’s products on my blogs, but Chris Rempel, the Lazy Marketer, has put out a really useful product for a very fair price.

His VIP Essentials package, gives you the templates and instructions for building his Conduit sites, which are a different kind of review site.

The best part of the VIP Essentials package, and the reason I wanted it, was for the Wordpress Review Site Template.

Today I put together my first Conduit site using the VIP Essentials blog template.  Here is my Quick Review Of site, that uses the VIP Essentials Wordpress Review Template.

I love this concept of building a review site within Wordpress.  It’s really just a matter of copying and pasting the product information into the appropriate fields in Wordpress.

You don’t have to know HTML and create, modify or update static HTML web pages.  This Wordpress Review site system makes creating review pages very easy.

Another reason I love this review template and how it’s integrated into WordPress is, as I’m sure you know by now, the search engines love blogs.

With a few pings and a little social bookmarking, there’s no reason your blog shouldn’t be indexed in Google in a day.

The VIP Essentials Wordpress template is great, and works well out of the box.

However, it wasn’t setup to use some of the Wordpress plugins that I like.  So, I had to make a few changes to the template to use my favorite plugins properly.

I also improved the search engine optimization of the template, and added an RSS feed button and social bookmarking buttons.

If you are interested in creating review sites, this is something you need to check out.

I love this Wordpress review site builder, so here’s what I’ll do for you.  When you purchase the VIP Essentials through me, I’ll give you the changes I made to the templates.

You’ll just need to copy the files I changed to your web host.

I’ll also provide you with my favorite plugins, and some information on how to use them properly.  Again, you’ll just need to copy the plugins to your Wordpress plugin folder, turn them on and make a few changes to the settings.

These templates and plugins will make your review site a lean, mean, easy to use, SEO machine.

I’ll also provide you with any help you need getting your first VIP Essentials Review site setup and running properly.

So, it’s time to get your VIP Essentials Review Site Builder and get started.

Here’s what you need to do:

1.  Purchase the Review Site Builder
2.  Contact my Helpdesk and give me your Paypal receipt number

I’ll then be in touch and let you know how to get the files I modified to enhance the review site builder.

Getting Traffic to A New Site

I’m often asked, “how do I get people to my site?” Of course that is the million dollar question. Everyone would love to have thousands of visitors to their website each day.

You can have a website that doesn’t convert well, but if you get enough traffic you can have great success. A ton of traffic overcomes bad conversion rates. Once you have traffic, you can always improve your conversion rates, but you first need traffic to determine your conversion rates.

So, this is how I go about getting traffic to a new website.

Blog Good Content

If you have web hosting and a domain, install a Wordpress blog on the domain. Wordpress is easy to install, and search engines love blogs. It’s common for me to see my blogs indexed in just a few days after making a few posts to them.

I often see my blog indexed before my main page, and since my main page is linked to by my blog, my main page gets indexed.

Write good content to your blog at least two times a week, every other day even better, or every day for the best results.

When writing to your blog, try to think of search terms people might use to look for the info you are providing – these are called keywords. Use the keywords in your title and in your blog post.

If you use keywords that are too popular, like “make money from home” searchers will never find you because of the expert competition. You want to find less popular keywords – sometimes called long tail keywords.

When you write a good blog post, Digg it, Stumble it, and submit it to Social Bookmarking services. Here is a good tool you can use – http://www.socialmarker.com/ (I don’t do this for every post I write, only my best).

I also submit my sites to the following sites which are not listed in Social Marker.

DoFollow Digg Clone

Tagzilla – This is a new site and still has a few bugs, but I think it will be a big one. You spend a few minutes giving link love to other sites and stories that you like, and others do the same for you.

Bloggingzoom – As the name implies, this is really for submitting your blog posts.

It takes a while to signup for all the social bookmarking sites, but they can bring you some good traffic and get you in the Google top ten for your chosen keywords.

Submit individual posts to the social bookmarking services, not the main blog page, and not your site main page. You can always link to your main page from your blog posts and from you sidebar links.

Only submit a post to the social bookmarking services once, and don’t do them all in one day. Spread the submissions out so they look natural.

Take your best posts and re-write them slightly so they are unique and submit them to http://ezinearticles.com and http://goarticles.com Have a Bio box that creates curiosity and points to your website. This is also known as Bum Marketing, and this is a great bum marketing resource .

Good content on your blog, and incoming links to your blog will build traffic, page rank and best of all – credibility. This in turn will lead to people visiting your money pages, and you making sales.

Get Incoming Links

Take some of your blog content, re-write it slightly again, or use new content and create a Squidoo lens , or a Hubpage , or even better – both. From the Squidoo lens, or HubPage, or both – link back to your blog, or your main page.

Submit your Squidoo lens to http://lensroll.com

Submit your blog RSS feed, your Squidoo RSS feed, and your Hubpage RSS feed to http://feedage.com and http://rss2.com

Another good way to get incoming links is to comment on blogs that are dofollow, this is becoming very popular, but you need to do it right.

I have a DoFollow Blog Resource dedicated to DoFollow Blog Information.

Commenting on dofollow blogs is something you will want to continue to do on an on-going basis.

Following these steps will definitely get you listed in the search engines, and if your keyword is not too competitive, they could land you on the first page of Google.
